Through the Sky

By Elizabeth, Year 9

My artwork “Through the Sky” is an animation of an F-16 fighter jet with flames coming out the back and words appearing on the plane. I finished this artwork on 6/6/2023. My artwork shows the identity of myself. The words that appear on the plane are words that explain me, and the fighter jet shows my identity through myself loving planes, my hobby as an Air Force Cadet and finally wanting to become an officer in the Air Force. The elements that I used in my artwork is the contemporary animation drawing and by using ideas from the William Kentridge animations videos we watched, when he drew something, took a photo, then changed it a little, then took another photo.

The tools I used for my artwork is a camera to take the photo and a tripod to keep the camera in one spot to keep the same frame of the artwork. The process of my artwork was:

  • First I made practise drawings of different aeroplanes to find the right type.
  • Second I drew the right jet on my final page out of charcoal and drew clouds around the plane like it's flying.
  • Third I set up the camera in the right spot to take the photos. After setting up the camera I changed the picture by moving the clouds and adding words that described me.
  • Next I did the third step multiple times until I got all the different shots.

My overall thoughts on my artwork are I think it turn out good because I’m not a good drawer and the drawing is exactly how I pictured it. I pictured the artwork to be one of my favourite planes flying through the sky with either words that describe me and my interests on the plane or around it on the clouds.
